Current Students - Guru Vandana Tribute to My Mother Rishi's 1st Birthday

Hi!

I am Daya Sharma 67 years of age and mother of two grown up and lovely children. My daughter Madhu, she has studied to Masters level, she loves travelling. My son Aaron is a senior lecturer at a University in London I was born and brought up in Punjab. India and worked as a teacher for a few years before coming to the UK in 1966. I always loved singing and dancing at the weddings and parties but not as a professional.

As my children grew older, I started a women's group at an adult education centre here in Gravesend in 1991 and named it "Saheli", where Raj Rani was working. So we became good friends and that friendship is now a lot more deeper.

As time went by, lots of other like minded women came and went, the group carried on developing. We have now four books written for the community of the community and the 5th one is underway. We operate almost every day now. We run a bollywood and Bhangra Dance( Punjabi Folk Dance) for girls and Gidhha Dance,Yoga, Badminton and Swimming for ladies. we organize outings to places of interest, social and cultural events for the whole family.

As I mentioned before I was interested in music, but was struggling to find the right time and the right guru till now. Luckily Raj Rani found Chhaya ji 's contact while she was America last summer. She was so impressed with her teaching, her style and more over the convenience of learning one to one in her own house without any one looking over her and judging her progress, that she started sharing it with all her friends.

As I am not a computer whiz kid, I was a bit reluctant. One day I went to see Raj in London and she showed me her book of bhajans she was practicing, and the way the system worked. So I came home bought the head phones and asked my son to put me on the SKYPE. There I was up and running, talking to Chhaya ji as a friend and learning the skill I was pining for all my life. I really enjoy it and look forward to the Tuesday afternoon for the new lesson and show off what ever I have managed to learn. At the age of nearly 70, If I can do any one can do it. So Go For It
